The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald/Gordon Lightfoot
I like folk music, and I like Gordon Lightfoot. But for some reason I hate this song. I know it’s about a tragic event in Canadian shipping history, but I still hate it. I know it reached #2 on the charts, but I still hate it. One standup comedian suggested playing it at parties when you’re trying to get everyone to go home.

Well, I don't think they're his best lyrics. Although I concede that the need to include Gitchigomee, Wisconsin, and Cleveland presents a special challenge to the songwriter.
Or maybe it's the repetitive melody. I like Gordon, too, but nobody does repetition like Bob Dylan.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for this one. Maybe it's because he says Gitche Gumee.
I keep telling myself I'll go out and buy a bunch of Lightfoot CDs from the 60s and 70s but I never get around to it. I used to have some of his early albums on vinyl.
This song holds a special place in my heart.
So where's my corned beef sandwich (pickle on the side)...?
